Information on Required Tdap Vaccine
  • Are my child's immunizations current?
If you have received a notice or phone call from the HVPS Health Dept. please read the notice carefully.  We will let you know if your child is missing any required immunizations by New Mexico for entry to school as well as recommend immunizations that are not required.  If an immunization is required -- it is important that you schedule an appointment to get your child current and call the HVPS Health Dept. to let us know you have this appointment.  We will work with you to make sure your child is current and compliant with New Mexico School Entry Immunization Requirements.  Once your child has received their required immunization it is important for the HVPS Health Dept. to get a copy of your child's current immunization record.  If an immunization is recommended it is important that you talk with your Primary Physician regarding any questions or concerns you may have about the vaccine and if your child would benefit from receiving the vaccine.
  • Influenza Vaccine Clinic at HVPS
HVPS Health Department works closely with the New Mexico Department of Health each year to be able to provide your child the influenza vaccine.  Permission forms should be going out to your child in either September or October.  We send out a school messenger letting Parents/Guardians know that your child has been given a permission form to fill out and to return as soon as possible.  This clinic usually offers both the influenza mist, which is a nasal spray vaccine and the influenza injection.  The type of vaccine your child will receive depends on the information you provide on the permission form. Please fill out the form completely to ensure your child is able to receive the vaccine.  Any missing information could put your child at risk for not being able to receive it if we are unable to contact you.  If your child has a medical condition or an allergy to eggs, gentamicin sulfate, gelatin or MSG please talk with your Doctor to make sure it is safe for him or her to receive it.  The New Mexico Department of Health comes to our District for one day and we go to each school site to administer the this vaccine to your child.  We do not call Parents/Guardians to let them know what day the clinic will be held unless you specify on the form somewhere that you would like to be present with your child for their vaccine.  If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact the District Nurse.
Welcome back!
Welcome back to school!  I hope your summer was restful and safe. The beginning of the school year is a busy time for both Parents and students and we want to ensure your child has everything he or she needs to be healthy and safe while in school. It is important that you let a Nurse know what medical diagnoses your child has and/or any medications your child takes at home or will be taking at school.  Please bring your child's medication in to your school's health office personally so you can fill out the proper paperwork and talk with a Health Staff Member.  We look forward to working with you and your family.
HVPS Health Department
HVPS Health Department is committed to providing the best care for the students and staff in our District. We encourage the students to live a healthy active lifestyle by promoting good nutrition, hygiene, and staying active. We also educate students on good habits such as proper hand washing techniques and teeth brushing.

We recognize the need for success in our students academically so we work closely with the Teachers and Staff of HVPS to help promote that by providing both routine and referral Vision and Hearing Screenings. These screenings help identify students that would benefit from having further testing done by a professional so that they can excel in their life and school work.

The HVPS Health Department also works closely with the Parents to ensure that every student is up-to-date on their required immunizations by providing information and education on New Mexico Immunization Requirements. It is our goal to keep our students safe and healthy in school.
